DAUPHIN ISLAND, Alabama (WALA) – In partnership with the City of Dauphin Island, Alabama Power has scheduled a power outage for the Barrier Island on November 3.

The outage will start at 9 a.m. and is expected to end at 5 p.m. that day.

During this period, electrical service will be suspended for the island. The planned shutdown allows Alabama Power crews to safely upgrade equipment and make improvements to its transmission system on Dauphin Island, according to the utility. Alabama Power says it worked closely with the city to plan for the blackout.

“The Town of Dauphin Island appreciates the opportunity to partner with Alabama Power in planning this outage,” Mayor Jeff Collier said in a press release. “We want our citizens to be aware of this upcoming blackout so that they can make the necessary arrangements.”

Alabama Power has worked closely with city leaders to arrange the least important time to suspend electrical service, the utility said.

“Alabama Power is working diligently to provide safe and reliable electrical service to our communities,” Beth Thomas, director of public relations for Alabama Power, said for the press release. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as our teams work as quickly and safely as possible to complete these important upgrades. “
