Awesome Holiday Weekend Continues
The very good weather for the holidays will continue on Sunday as we will have a good cool and dry flow over the northern region which will keep us soft and comfortable. Afternoon highs will be in the lower 70s to the lower 80s in the northwest to southeast region.
While the morning will start out rather chilly on Memorial Day, temperatures will heat up quickly in the morning and mid-afternoon. The skies will be mostly sunny and highs will level off in the lower 80s to the lower 90s across the region from northwest to southeast.
Welcome to the start of meteorological summer
A system will begin to develop in our west on Tuesday, the first day of the meteorological spring, which will help bring slightly higher humidity levels to central Alabama. At this point we are looking to stay dry, but humidity and heat levels will increase. The sky will be partly or mostly cloudy with highs reaching the mid-80s to the lower 90s.
As this system gets closer to the area on Wednesday, the southern humidity advection will become a bit stronger, just enough where we might see a few isolated showers and storms developing during the main heat of the day. . Highs will again reach the mid-80s to the lower 90s.
The system is moving through the area on Thursday, which will bring mostly cloudy skies with showers and thunderstorms likely throughout the day, mostly for the northern half of the area, while the odds will be much lower for the half. South. Highs will range from the lower 80s in the northwest to near or right 90 degrees in the southeast.
Not much change for Friday as plenty of humidity will continue to be available over central Alabama as well as the higher possibility of many scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly along and north of I-20. Peaks will vary throughout the 1980s across the region as temperatures will be slightly cooler where showers fall.
Showers and storms possible next weekend
At this point, the first weekend in June continues to be very hot and humid throughout the region with showers and storms possible. Saturday seems to have the better chance of rain of the two days, but there will also be a decent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. Saturday highs will be in the lower 80s to the lower 90s. Sunday highs appear to be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s.
Update on the tropics
At 10 p.m. CDT Saturday, tropical cyclones are not expected to form over the next 5 days across the North Atlantic, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
On this day in the meteorological history
1879 – A major outbreak of severe weather occurred in Kansas and western Missouri. In Kansas, tornadoes killed eighteen people in Delphos and thirty people in Irving.
