Barnsley’s transfer activity set to thrill PNE fans after appointment confirmed
There aren’t many clubs Preston North End can relate to in the Championship, but Barnsley is certainly one of them.
A similarly sized Nordic club that has climbed the second and third tier over the past 15 years and is unable to spend any money on transfer windows.
After surviving last season, the Tykes are battling for a play-off berth under Valérien Ismael – a proactive and forward-thinking club who are competing extremely well this season.
With North End of Preston Currently sitting in the middle of the table and having had a lot of changes to contend with over the past 12 months, the next summer transfer window should be very busy.
And the first step was taken on Monday this week, when the appointment of senior recruitment analyst James Beet – whose three-year term as Barnsley’s recruitment analyst came to an end.
It is an exciting meeting off the pitch and one need only look at the signings the Yorkshire club have made over the past three years to realize it.
Beet will have played a key role in identifying the players brought to Oakwell during his time there and, with the club working under a unique model but financially similar circumstances, he also hopes to help PNE.
His time with Barnsley has allowed the Recruiter to recruit and recruit effectively from overseas – likely due to the appointment of Gerhard Struber – while targeting and signing well domestically, which is not easy.
North End bringing in someone young but experienced, with fresh ideas and a history of working with a rising Championship rival can only be positive.
