Bishop State Community College: Fix It program construction class open for enrollment
October 13, 2021
UPDATE October 21, 2021 – The deadline to register for the Fix It program has been extended! Call Philip Stiell at 251 665-4082 or Shakebra Andry at 251 665-4086 to register. Or come to our office at Campus Sud-Ouest for more information!
The Fix It Workforce Development Program is designed to prepare income-eligible, out-of-school youth aged 17-24 for an opportunity to enter the highly competitive construction industry. Participants can also choose to prepare to enter the auto body industry. Both are in high demand and we have been successful in placing students in interesting jobs.
The next Construction cohort begins October 25, 2021 and is limited to just twelve participants. This course will include courses in carpentry, electricity and occupational safety. This is mainly practical work in our carpentry workshop and also includes construction and rehabilitation work of houses in the field. Best of all, there are no reimbursable fees for participants. Tuition fees have already been paid. Not only that, participants can earn a stipend of $ 300 after the first five weeks and $ 20 per day thereafter, for each day they are in class. Upon completion of the course, Bishop State will help participants find meaningful work.
Classes will take place Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with one hour for lunch. Class size is limited to twelve participants.
