Boys Power 10: Zone 7 champ Huntsville breaks into latest leaderboard

Huntsville made the biggest move in this week’s AL.com Power 10 men’s basketball rankings.

The Panthers won the Zone 7 championship, defeating Albertville and Sparkman.

Christian Schweers’ team is now 22-10 and heading into regional play. Huntsville jumped from No. 10 to No. 3 in this week’s rankings, a list of the best teams in the state, regardless of ranking.

Boys’ sub-regional games in grades 1A-6A are scheduled for Tuesday and regional games from Wednesday.

Here are the rankings for this week:

10. Hills of Vestavia (25-4)

Previous ranking: 5

The Week: Defeated Hewitt-Trussville 78-55. Lost to Spain Park 59-56. Class 7A, second in zone 6.

Next stop: vs. Huntsville, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., Class 7A Northeast Regional semifinals

9. Spain Park (26-7)

Previous ranking: NR

The week: Defeated Gadsden City 68-55 and Vestavia Hills 59-56. Class 7A, Zone 6 champions.

Next stop: against Sparkman, Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., Northeast Region Class 7A Semi-Finals

8. Autaugaville (24-2)

Previous ranking: 9

The week: Defeated Billingsley 91-20 and Maplesville 73-68. Class 1A, Zone 7 champions.

Next stop: against RC Hatch, Tuesday, Class 1A sub-regionals

7. Mountain Stream (27-4)

Previous ranking: 2

The Week: Defeated Briarwood Christian 61-37. Lost to Homewood 76-63. Class 6A, second in zone 9.

Next step: at the minor, Tuesday, class 6A sub-regionals

6. Oak Mountain (24-5)

Previous ranking: 8

The Week: Defeated Tuscaloosa County 46-41 and Thompson 66-53. Class 7A, Zone 5 champions.

Next stop: vs. Austin, 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Class 7A Northwest Regional Semifinals

5. McGill-Toolen (27-4)

Previous ranking: 6

The week: Defeated Citronelle 110-40 and Blount 64-48. Class 6A, Zone 1 champions.

Next stop: against Robertsdale, Tuesday, Class 6A sub-regionals

4. Midfielder (25-7)

Previous ranking: 3

The week: Defeated Holy Family 111-24 and Westminster-Oak Mountain 84-37. Class 2A, Zone 9 champions.

Next stop: vs South-East, Tuesday, class 2A sub-regionals

3. Huntville (22-10)

Previous ranking: 10

The week: Defeated Albertville 65-49 and Sparkman 54-49. Class 7A, Zone 7 champions.

Next stop: against Vestavia Hills, Wednesday at 10:30 am, semi-finals of class 7A Northeast Regionals

2. Eufaule (29-3)

Previous ranking: 4

The Week: Defeated Russell County 68-41 and Valley 82-50. Class 6A, Zone 4 champions.

Next step: against Lee-Montgomery, Tuesday, sub-regional class 6A.

1. Baker (29-3)

Previous ranking: 1

The week: Defeated Davidson 65-53 and Theodore 83-78. Class 7A, Zone 1 champions.

Next stop: vs. Murphy, 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Class 7A Southwest Regional semifinals
