Bruce Blessing Obituary (1948 – 2022) – Jasper, TX
Bruce was born on January 7, 1948, at Wheeler Air Force Base in Wahiawa, Hawaii, to Lt. Col. Samuel E. Blessing and Elizabeth (Betty) L. Blessing.
In his younger years, Bruce wrote in football and wrestled for Groveton High School (Class of 1966) in Arlington, Virginia. He later got involved in some serious bodybuilding which saw him compete twice for the Mr. Arkansas title.
He was an excellent guitarist totally self taught and played in several venues while in Costa Rica – (you hum it – he will eventually play it)
Bruce and his wife Lynn were avid divers who had a fun vacation diving across much of the Caribbean. He enjoyed living on or near the ocean, which allowed him to live and boat on Dauphin Island, Al. After 13 years there, he and Lynn moved to beautiful North Wilkesboro , North Carolina, and made friends during their seven years there.
Retirement beckoned and after a visit to Costa Rica they chose to retire there, again making lifelong friends. After 6 years there, wanting to be closer to their family, they purchased a century-old farmhouse in Colmesneil, TX and began restoring it. they joined the church there and again made many new friends.
Sadly, her life ended unexpectedly at Harbor Hospice in Jasper, TX. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn Clawson Blessing, son Brett (Tracy) of Springdale, AR and daughter Jennifer Rizzo (Steven) of Rosenberg Long Island, NY. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Chase and Chloe Blessing and Steven, Ella and Nicholas Rizzo, one sister Barbara Blessing of Whitestone, TX and one sister Carol Chilton.
On a very personal note, Bruce accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was happy to let it be known.
When Bruce left for work, everyone who employed him considered him a dear and personal friend. If you met Bruce, you loved him. He had the absolute best personality, and he was so endearing. He literally “never met a stranger”!
Bruce was the owner of Blessing Sandblasting and Painting from 1987 to 2012. After “retiring” (can’t hold back a good man) he owned BLBLESS, LLC from 2019 to 2022 and now he’s still busy loving and loving the Lord in a new and better place, his original home, heaven.
Rest in peace nicest guy ever. We miss you, but we will see you again soon.
Thank you Dr. Joe Bill Holland and Dr. Scott McKenney for your loving and caring hearts regarding Bruce’s situation. Bruce was cremated and his soul evolved. A memorial will be declared later.
