Columbia Southern University returns to opening ceremonies in person this month
ORANGE BEACH, Alabama (WKRG) – Columbia Southern University (CSU) will return to the annual in-person kickoff ceremonies at the Foley Event Center in OWA on Friday, October 22.
The graduation day will consist of three ceremonies at 9 a.m., 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. More than 700 graduates and their friends and families are expected.
“CSU is very pleased to be able to once again welcome students, their families and friends to celebrate their graduation with us in Baldwin County,” Columbia Southern University President Ken Styron said in a statement. hurry. “We are all looking forward to meeting our graduates and their families as we prepare for this milestone for so many. “
The keynote speaker for each ceremony is Bert Thornton, retired vice president emeritus of Waffle House. He began his career at Waffle House in 1971 on the grill and rose through the ranks to President and Chief Operating Officer. Thornton’s speech and ceremonies will be webcast on the CSU website and will be available for public viewing upon request.
The day after graduation, graduates can mingle with the college’s Grad Bash from noon to 4 p.m. at the Lodge at Gulf State Park.
The university is implementing COVID-19 precautions, such as the requirement to mask all CSU staff, reduction of room capacity to 32% for each ceremony, social distancing, provision of stations for disinfection throughout the building and the supply of disposable masks. There will also be a virtual launch ceremony in May for those who were unable to attend this month’s launch ceremonies.
