Conditions on Dauphin Island following this week’s storms | Mobile County Alabama News
DAUPHIN ISLAND, Alabama (WALA) – After severe storms this week, Dauphin Island is still feeling the side effects. Strong winds and high waves are a dangerous combination on the beaches.
Winds strong enough to knock garbage cans onto the road and a drastic drop in temperature.
“All of a sudden it’s really cold,” said Zane Miller, Dauphin Island resident. “The winds are really, really picking up. “
Risks of potentially fatal rip currents continue as high waves reach 6 to 8 feet.
While they are still recovering from Hurricane Ida, mounds and mounds of sand continue to block the roads.
The strong winds have people on the island concerned about driving.
“When you step up on that bridge, it’s really, really windy,” Miller said. “It’s like you’re about to be dumped.”
However, locals don’t think this cold weather will last long.
“It’s just normal weather,” Miller said. “It happens every year. Nothing much different. It’s a lot colder than usual, but you can see how I am dressed. I know it’s going to be pretty hot soon.
These strong winds are expected to subside this weekend.
