Dauphin Island collects donations for Louisiana | Hurricanes Tropics Storm Tracker Forecast Maps
DOLPHIN ISLAND Ala. (WALA) -Dauphin Island knows firsthand what it is like to receive a direct hit from a hurricane and now they are doing their part to help relief efforts for those hard hit by Hurricane Ida.
Dauphin Island Police Department and Dauphin Island Public Safety Department team up to fill a trailer with non-perishable hurricane relief supplies. Once the trailer is full, it will be taken to Louisiana to donate to those in need.
Members of the police department were in contact with people all over Louisiana and immediately got the idea to help. One of the officers donated the trailer to their lawn care department. People pulled up throughout the day after seeing a post on the Public Safety Department’s Facebook page. They say it’s about paying it forward to those who have helped them in the past.
“You never know when it’s going to happen to you,” Keith Richard said. “This could easily have been our island that was hit the hardest by this storm, so we were lucky and praying for those in the west who were hit hard. We are all there for each other. We face the same dangers that come from the Gulf, so the best thing we can do is try to help our neighbors. ”
The trailer will be there Tuesday and Wednesday for those who want to donate. This is located at Dauphin Island Fire Rescue on the corner of Lackland St. and Chaumont Ave.
