Dauphin Island vacation rental companies are warning out-of-town guests of the possibility of severe weather
DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (WALA) – Besides the choppy waves, Wednesday was a perfect day on Dauphin Island with kids and families enjoying the sand.
Indiana’s Len and Mary Jo Clark were among a few dozen in the West End to take in the sights.
“We have five grandchildren with us and four children and they are having a great time,” said Mary Jo.
The Clarks spent part of the day shelling and cleaning up trash on the beach. They know severe storms could be heading their way, but they aren’t too worried because Indiana is also seeing weather like this.
“We have storms sometimes, so that doesn’t worry us and we’re in a tornado zone,” Mary Jo said. “We haven’t been through a tornado, but we know how to prepare for it.”
At this time of year, Dauphin Island is teeming with city dwellers.
Dauphin Island Real Estate vacation rental company knows this and plans ahead when severe storms are expected by providing constant updates.
“We personally call every tenant we have, push notifications to their smartphones, all that good stuff,” said Andy Sims of Dauphin Island Real Estate.
The goal is safety as conditions on Dauphin Island can change in an instant.
“They’re not from the area, they’re from the Midwest and other places where they have their own kinds of weather events, but here it’s scary when the water comes up to the house, under the house and even to the main road,” Sims said.
For the Clarks, they hope the forecast is bad, so they can start enjoying their trip to Dauphin Island again.
“We hope it will pass overnight,” Len said.
“We’re having such a good time that we think we can handle what’s going to happen,” Mary Jo said.
