Dauphin Island will kick off the Mardi Gras parade season on January 29
You are still trying to get an idea of the preparations for Christmas. On Dauphin Island, they ask, “Who’s ready for Mardi Gras?”
That’s the question posed in the latest issue of the Island’s Town Crier newsletter. The document (which, to be fair, also includes a lot of information about Christmas events) gives an overview of the parade that kicks off the season on the Alabama Gulf Coast, as well as several other events.

The 2022 Krewe de la Dauphine parade will take place at 1 p.m. on January 29, a Saturday. It’s two weeks before the Conde Cavaliers hold their parade, traditionally the first parade in downtown Mobile; according to the Condes Facebook page, they will roll on Friday, February 11. Shrove Tuesday falls two and a half weeks later, on March 1.
According to the Public Crier, the Krewe de La Dauphine will celebrate its 30th anniversary under the theme of the circus. The parade will feature around 50 units, including “colourful floats, multiple bands, marching units and more,” as well as King Kenny, Queen Vickie and Grand Marshal Brad Cox.

This will be followed by the Dauphin Island People’s Parade, which will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 5. According to the crier, the parade committee is accepting applications until January 24 “from dance, equestrian and performance groups, walkers, caravans Boats and floats, bands, all types of vehicles and more Some entries may require a “nominal” fee Registration information can be found at www.townofdauphinisland.org under “updates and events”.

The Mystic Krewe of Salty Paws Pet Parade at 10 a.m. Feb. 12 is a fundraiser for the Animal Rescue Foundation sponsored by the DI Chamber of Commerce. The entry fee is $10. Visit Krewe’s Facebook page for more information.

· The Island Street Massacre Secret Society will host its 2nd annual Island Street Massacre board beginning at 6:30 p.m. on February 13. The event “will highlight periods of the island’s history, folklore and its mystical beginnings resurrected from the past by costumed members in a flame-lit street tableau.
