Event venue owners want alligator removed from Baldwin County property
SPANISH FORT, Alabama (WKRG) – Usually guests are invited to a wedding, but there is one that seems to show up when not wanted in Baldwin County. The guest entered the Izenstone Event Avenue property this week and does not want to leave.
“I was here feeding the ducks near the reeds about 5 feet from the water and he actually rushed at me and the ducks trying to grab one of us,” he said. said Amber Smith, manager of the Izenstone event venue at Spanish Fort. .
An alligator, which Izenstone owners believe is over 6 feet long, has built a new home in their pond. Thursday evening a retirement party was held there and this weekend a wedding is planned on the site. They want to make sure the alligator doesn’t steal the show.
“We’re going to have extra staff on site to keep an eye on the pond and make sure the kids aren’t running around the pond. The photographer we have this weekend likes to stand by the water so that she can take some really good pictures of the bride and groom, ”Smith added.
But, over the weekend, staff began putting up signs and urging visitors, even photographers, to keep their distance.
“We immediately called the game warden. We’re on his list. He’s coming, but he’s one person for the whole county. He obviously can’t just drop everything and come. So we are struggling to find someone who can come and move the alligator, ”she said.
Until that happens, they are stuck with the unwanted guest and trust the alligator to stay away.
