Fairhope’s Blayne Myrick Commits to Southern Alabama in Football
Southern Alabama landed a 2022 football commitment from one of the region’s most versatile athletes on Sunday.
Fairhope High School’s Blayne Myrick will sign with the Jaguars when the late signing period begins on Wednesday, he confirmed to AL.com on Sunday. He said he received a scholarship offer from the Jaguars on Friday.
“I’m very excited,” Myrick said. “I’m just pumped about it.”
Myrick first announced his decision via Twitter:
6-foot-3, 215-pound Myrick played safety, linebacker and wide receiver for the Pirates, while returning punts. On defense, he has 59 tackles and four tackles for loss in 2021 with one sack, one interception and three pass breakups.
Myrick said he expects to play linebacker for the Jaguars, although he may also see time at tight end or at safety. He also received an offer from northern Alabama, but ultimately opted to stay closer to home when southern Alabama presented a scholarship offer.
“Their facilities are amazing, so nice,” Myrick said. “The nutrition center is something that really stands out. It is incomparable.
Myrick is the first high school athlete to sign with the Jaguars at the end of the signing period. Southern Alabama signed 11 players in December, nine from high school and two from college.
Southern Alabama has also added nine Division I transfers since the end of the season, including quarterback Carter Bradley (Toledo), defensive end Daniel Foster-Allen (Auburn) and tight end Damarcus Thomas (Ole Miss). Foster-Allen and Thomas are also high school locals, Foster-Allen from St. Paul’s and Thomas from Saraland.
