MOSSPOINT, Miss. (WALA) – A prom photo now makes a lot more sense to Karragan Cochran’s family. They should be preparing to celebrate his high school graduation, instead they are now preparing to celebrate his life.

Cochran died last week after a rip current dragged her underwater off Dauphin Island. She was taken to hospital, but died.

“She was just always fun, you could always see a smile on her face, she was never in a bad mood, she was always the light of the room,” said family friend Jordan Plummer. “It’s just going to be a really weird world without her.”

This news hits Plummer and the community of Hurley, Mississippi hard.

“They’re like family to us, so I always see Karragan as a little kid running around,” she said.

To try to help with the sudden loss, Rock ‘N Nutrition in Moss Point, which Plummer co-owns, has started a fundraising effort.

Proceeds from the new “Karebear” tea drink will go directly to the Cochran family.

“Our sales just skyrocketed for this drink, a hundred glasses a day just for it without even counting everything else,” she said. “This community is so great to come together in times like this.”

For Plummer, the news is shocking, but she hopes her efforts can help a family struggling through so much right now.

“You don’t think this could happen to kids or in your town or people you know you’re so close to and when it does you’re so blown away and shocked,” she said. “It just makes you realize how short life is.”

Rock ‘N Nutrition at Moss Point also accepts cash donations.

Fundraising will continue until Friday.
