Family member recounts brutal boat launch brawl
BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. / CNN – Charges are pending following a massive fight in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, which left several people injured, officials said.
Investigators were unable to divulge much information as the incident is still under investigation, but the lead detective was able to confirm that several people were injured after a major brawl.
Charges are pending, the investigator said, but did not say whether more than one person would be charged.
A family member of a person injured in the scuffle said some of those injured were held up underwater and beaten.
“When you hear your loved one sit there and tell you that he thought he was dying,” she said.
The woman did not wish to be identified for fear of reprisals. She said there had been a little scuffle in the West End of Dauphin Island, but when her family member and friends picked up their boat in Bayou La Batre, a dozen people were waiting for them at the launch.
“It was definitely a brutal attack and the reason these grown men sat there and waited two hours,” she said. “They had two hours to come to their senses to leave and not do this and they chose not to do it.
Several people were injured in the scuffle, injuries include a broken nose, bruises and concussion, the family member said.
“They are fine now,” the woman said. “They still have flashbacks, being held underwater keeps coming back to you. It scares you.
Bayou La Batre police said part of the incident may have been filmed.
“I don’t want this to happen to another family,” the family member said. “I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”
