Gator Soccer loses 2-0 at No.23 Auburn
AUBURN, Alabama – Florida soccer lost 2-0 to Auburn No. 23 on Sunday afternoon at Auburn Soccer Complex.
Today’s result places the Gators tied for ninth overall in the Southeastern Conference. The top 10 teams qualify for the SEC tournament, which begins on Halloween day in Orange Beach, Ala.
After a scoreless first half, the Tigers took the lead in the 52sd minute on a score from SEC goalscoring leader Marissa Arias. Anna Haddock handed the ball to Arias on a throw-in. Arias pushed towards the goal, scoring from a right-footed shot from 18 yards.
The Tigers added an insurance goal in the 72sd minute. Anna Haddock hit the baseline and fired an eight-yard tilt shot. Sydney Richards deflected to give Auburn a 2-0 lead.
Auburn looked for his third goal in the 79e minute when Maddie Simpson fired a shot from 10 yards. Goalkeeper Gator Alexa goldberg got his hands on it to swing the ball over to the crossbar for his ninth save of the afternoon.
