Great burgers to discover on the Gulf Coast of Alabama / Florida
(OBA®) – Orange Beach, AL – This is the third and final installment on the great burgers found on the Alabama-Florida Gulf Coast. The coast is not only a paradise of natural beauty, it is also known for its fabulous restaurants and variety of fresh seafood dishes throughout the coastal area.
But if seafood isn’t exactly your dish, it’s also fast becoming known for their cheeseburgers in paradise. Several places, some already famous, others new to the scene, and some holes in the wall joints make awesome burgers, from home style to whimsical to simply unique.
And tasty. The OBA community website decided to take a look at the burgers available on the Gulf Coast and you’ll likely find one you really like or learn one you didn’t know existed and wanted to try. Here we are.
This lunch / lunch stopover has a choice of five burgers on its menu – all half-pound Angus patties – including the Bama Burger which features sautéed onions and mushrooms, bacon, and provolone. The Cowboy Burger has cheddar, bacon, BBQ sauce and two onion rings. Put breakfast in your burger with the Sunrise Burger with an egg, bacon, lettuce, tomato and onions. The Patty Melt comes on rye and is topped with grilled onions and Swiss cheese. Or the Classic Cheeseburger with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle.
FISHER’S AT ORANGE BEACH MARINA
Fisher’s Dockside offers four burgers, including a traditional double cheeseburger. The Bama Burger has bacon, pepperjack, Tabasco fried onions, and barbecue sauce. The Fisher Burger is served with chili cheese and bacon tomato jam. And the mushroom burger is accompanied by sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese. All accompanied by fries and served on a brioche bun.
PLAYA AT THE SPORTSMAN MARINA
Fisher’s sister restaurant offers two burgers including a traditional cheeseburger with red onions, choice of American, Swiss or cheddar cheese with garlic aioli. The Playa burger comes with a slice of pineapple, fried onions, cheddar cheese, Playa BBQ and Alabama white BBQ sauce. Both are accompanied by fries and are served on brioche buns.
Known more for being a dive bar and nighttime stopover for workers in the service industry, Undertow serves some of the best food on the island and top of the list are burgers. A cheeseburger comes with lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard, and ketchup and has an excellent grilled flavor. The Swiss mushroom is accompanied by sautéed mushrooms and onions. They don’t come with a side but get the fried okra.
OSO AT BEAR POINT PORT
Oso offers two burgers including a double burger on toast with arugula, tomato, pickles, marinated red onion with a choice of cheese and $ 2 in addition to bacon, jalapeno, fried jalapeno or tobacco onions. Next is one of Oso’s Hatch Burger restaurant’s most unique burgers featuring American cottage cheese, bacon, chili salsa, Cajun fried onions, toast, arugula, tomato and pickles. Comes with a choice of side dish and the iron skillet potatoes are a great option or choose cut fries.
Oso breakfast also has a nice burger. Grilled with arugula, tomato, pickle and marinated red onions with your choice of side dish. Add cheese for a dollar and / or bacon for two dollars.
The Pantry at The Wharf Specialty Grocery serves burgers on Tuesdays and Thursdays with two toppings: 1000 Island Dressing and House Cheese.
The pizzeria offers quality burgers made with homemade beef brisket. The Alabama slammer has aged white cheddar, bacon tomato relish, and cayenne pepper confit bacon. Just the Facts contains lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and mayonnaise, add cheese for $ 149, bacon for $ 249. Shroom on Swish with a mix of wild mushrooms with a creamy Swiss cheese sauce. The protein shake contains lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayonnaise, bacon, white cheddar and a fried egg. Make the Texas Two Step with slow roasted beef brisket, house BBQ sauce, white cheddar and jalapenos.
The Craftsman is crushed burrata, homemade BBQ sauce, thick bacon and arugula. If you’re really hungry, try the Going Pro with two half-pound patties, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles, mayonnaise, thick bacon, cheddar cheese and a fried egg. They all come with fries or the choice of another side.
This gourmet artisan burger stop has 16 choices of burgers with beef and three with chicken, so it will be nearly impossible to present them all. We’ll pick a few, but you can see them all here.
Among these, the Reuben Burgers offers a half-pound patty, Swiss, pork belly pastrami and a creamy coleslaw with spicy garlic on toasted marbled rye. The Beer Cheeseburger features smoked cheddar, grilled onions, beer-marinated jalapenos, crispy onions and homemade beer cheese on a brioche bun. The Easy Rider has caramelized onions, smoked gouda, arugula, crispy onions, spicy garlic aioli on a brioche bun. Each month, one of the 16 burgers is named Donation Burger and 25 percent of those sales are generated by a selected charity. Everything is served with homemade fries or a side salad.
MCCLURE’S NY BAGEL AND SANDWICH STORE
McClure’s doesn’t offer a burger per se, but has a tasty variety of sandwiches and wraps, including roast beef and cheddar with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and horseradish sauce. Sandwiches can be on bagels, croissants, bread or wraps and are served with bagel chips, potato salad or pasta salad.
A Steamer burger comes with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and a side dish of potatoes – potato salad, new potatoes or fries. The cheese will cost you 99 cents.
BIG MIKE’S STEAKHOUSE
Big Mike’s offers the Chop House Burger, a 10 ounce homemade Angus burger, hand patted and grilled with your choice of toppings including lettuce, tomatoes, onions and Wickles pickles. Served on a large brioche bun. Add cheese for $ 1.50, bacon for $ 2, and jalapeño or mushrooms for a dollar. It is accompanied by steak and fries.
This seafood stop only has one burger, the Queen Diane Burger, and it’s served with your choice of traditional toppings on a toasted garlic bun. Served with fries, add cheese for $ 1.25.
This San Roc Cay stop offers a choice of three burgers. Redneck Riviera Burger is certified Angus topped with pulled pork, applewood bacon, cheddar cheese, house BBQ sauce and crispy fried onions on a toasted brioche bun. The Black & Bleu Burger is also blackened Angus and topped with applewood bacon, arugula, blue cheese mayonnaise and smoked onion jam on a toasted brioche bun. The Basic Beach Burger has the same patty as other burgers topped with bibb lettuce, Roma tomatoes, pickled red onions, Tabasco ketchup and smoker mayonnaise on a toasted brioche bun. They are served with a side, adding cheese or bacon will each set you back a dollar.
NEXT TO THE BEACH
This unique restaurant on the Gulf State Park Pier offers a grilled burger topped with American cheese and pickles. It is served with fries and a pickle spear. Bill E’s small batch of bacon costs extra.
