James Gurley Obituary (2022) – Corinth, MS
DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. –James Edward Gurley, 67, died Jan. 7, 2022, at Providence Mobile Hospital in Mobile, Ala.
Mr. Gurley was born in Corinth to Joe V. and Pearl Kellum Gurley on February 19, 1954. He was married to Kim Zaran Gurley for 30 years.
He was an accomplished writer with 30 science fiction/horror novels published under the pen name “JE Gurley”.
Throughout his life, Mr. Gurley was an avid musician in many local blues and rock bands, such as Area 51 of Tuscon, Arizona, playing bass guitar and keyboard.
Mr. Gurley graduated from Kossuth High School in just three years and went on to Northeast College, where he took courses to graduate. He received several honors while attending Memphis State. Later in life, he earned a culinary arts degree in Atlanta.
The survivors are her sisters, Joan Tylor Reed and Jeanette (Jimmy) Jones; his brother, Joe V. Gurley; her stepmother, Lori Uniewski; Kim’s three sisters and two brothers from Michigan; her cat, Cocoa; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; two uncles and three aunts.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joe V. and Pearl Kellum Gurley, and his beloved wife, Kim, who died aged 58 on March 4, 2020.
James and Kim’s ashes will be scattered on Dauphin Island, Ala.
