Kirt Announces 2022 Slate – University of Tennessee Athletics

Knoxville, Tennessee. – As head coach Joe KirtFor the first year at the helm, Tennessee will look to build on the success it enjoyed in 2021 when the team posted UT’s 20-win first season en route to its second straight East Division title. of the SEC and the program’s first SEC Tournament Championship since 2008.

The 2022 campaign is scheduled to begin Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. ET with an exhibition game against Notre Dame to be played at the Lynn Family Sports Vision and Training Center in Louisville. Including the preseason game against Notre Dame, UT’s opponent roster will feature competition against six teams that finished in the Top 25 of the 2021 Final Rankings.

Tennessee will open the season at home with Dayton (August 13) before hitting the road for a Thursday night matchup in North Carolina (August 18). UT will then enjoy a six-game homestand, hosting SMU (August 21), Duke (August 25), Bowling Green (August 31), Tennessee Tech (September 4), Kennesaw State (September 8) and Queens University (September 11). ).

In conference, UT will host five teams at Regal Stadium, facing Alabama (September 22), Missouri (October 6), LSU (October 14), South Carolina (October 23) and Vanderbilt (October 27).

The SEC tournament will be held in Pensacola, Florida for the first time this season, having been held in Orange Beach, Alabama for 18 of the past 19 seasons. The conference tournament will begin on October 30 and run until November 6. The first four rounds of NCAA tournament action will be hosted at campus venues, with the NCAA Women’s College Cup scheduled for Dec. 2-4 in Cary, North Carolina.

Tennessee, which advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 and finished the 2021 season ranked 11th, fires 10 of 11 starters in this historic campaign, including All-Americans. Jaïda Thomas and SEC Freshman of the Year Taylor Huff. Additionally, UT is adding 10 signers who have been collectively ranked in the nation’s No. 6 recruiting class.

“We’re excited to be back on the court this fall,” Kirt said. “Most of last year’s SEC Championship team is back, and we’re bringing a very talented group of players to our 2022 class. Our team is thrilled with our non-conference roster, knowing it’s a great one. preparation for the league matches that follow.
