Labor Day weekend kicks off in Mobile | Mobile County Alabama News
Mobile, Alabama (WALA) – Traffic down 1 to 10 this afternoon was bumper-to-bumper with thousands heading for the beach, and Mobile was drawing a large crowd as well.
Dennis Bohn is from Hernando, Mississippi, and his vacation plans have been redirected to Mobile.
“We were planning on going out on Carnival for a cruise to Cozumel, but that was canceled 3 weeks ago,” he said. “We had booked to do other things here so we decided to go downstairs.”
Even with the change, he said there was still a lot to do.
“We’re going to visit the battleship,” he said. “I am a pilot, so I have to see the air museum. Then we go to Pensacola to see their marine museum.”
Another resident outside New York said his weekend plans had not been affected by COVID-19, but he still remained cautious.
“I think that’s the important part, being around people you trust and not going out and doing crazy things,” said Hilton Hollis. “Wear masks and protect yourself. I think that’s what it is.”
Bohn said his wife was a nurse and had worked hard during the pandemic. He’s ready to chill out with her this Labor Day weekend.
“I’m just taking the time,” Bohn said. “She’s struggled with COVID, and she needs a break.”
