local hero of Spanish Fort recognized with honor | Baldwin County Alabama News
Spanish Fort, Alabama (WALA) – Spanish Fort honored one of its heroes this evening, recognizing him for more than 40 years of service.
Fire Chief Roger Few has been with the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Service since 1981 and is proficient in a bit of everything.
Having worked as a paramedic, shift supervisor and director of operations, Chief Few is a highly respected man in the community.
At this evening’s city council meeting, he was surprised by an honor: a proclamation declaring September 20 “Roger Few Day” in the city for his 40 years of dedication.
He was shocked to see his family in the back row as he accepted.
“There had been a few comments earlier about why there were so many cars in the parking lot, but I didn’t put two and two together,” he said. “They really helped me out on this one.”
He was humble and grateful to be appreciated in front of his colleagues and family.
“I’m not doing it for recognition,” he said. “I have enjoyed serving the fire department and the city for so long, and I appreciate the opportunity.”
The Mayor of the Spanish Fort, Mike McMillan, also thanked Chief Few for his services.
“First responders are so essential to every city, and they do such an amazing job,” said Mayor McMillan. “It’s certainly great to have him on our staff.
