Man arrested for stealing fire engine says God told him to do it
An Alabama man was arrested after he stole a vehicle from a fire station on Wednesday, Mobile Alabama affiliate Fox reported.
Surveillance video released Thursday shows a man identified by police as Jeffrey McCants, Jr. entering a fire station in Prichard where he slipped into the station’s 2009 Crown Victoria before slowly exiting the garage. When apprehended, McCants admitted to stealing the car but claimed he was doing a divine act.
“I took it because God told me. And guess what, God help me do it all, ”McCants told police cameras as he was taken to jail. “I steal everything, man. I’m stealing your heart, baby “
Another man named Henry Dixon has also been arrested for his connection to the crime. But according to McCants, Dixon had nothing to do with this incident.
“I did it all,” Dixon continued to shout into the cameras. “Hey listen, when I get out I’m going to steal a police car.”
Plus, according to McCants, his divine calling doesn’t end with auto theft. He announced to the media that he would run for mayor of Mobile, Alabama, once he was done fighting. “Hello, my name is Jeffrey McCants,” he said. “I’m running for mayor of Mobile, Alabama, baby.”
McCants is due to be brought to justice on Friday for theft. McCants was previously convicted of theft and is currently facing separate drug and theft charges.
