MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A 43-year-old man was stabbed to death at his home on Senator Street in Mobile.

Police were called to the scene around 3pm on Sunday and found Omar Brown suffering from stab wounds. He was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries.

Investigators said they found Freddie Maxwell, 36, at the scene armed with a knife. He was arrested and charged.

Police Mobile said Brown was Maxwell’s stepfather.

As he was being escorted to the Metro Jail — Maxwell had this to say:

“I didn’t mean to do it – he tried to kill me. Lee: You’re saying it was self-defense? — Maxwell: I’m saying he plotted to have me murdered.”

Meanwhile, residents of Senator Street are also reacting to crime.

“I pass here every day. I pass here every day to visit my mother and my sister. It’s breathtaking… It’s breathtaking — we’re in a new year and it looks like it’s n “there’s only a certain number of deaths every It’s sad. It’s sad – in broad daylight,” Nicole Haygood said.

Haygood is one of many people who arrived at the crime scene during the more than two hours the street was filmed. She, like many others, does not understand murderous violence.

“Where is it that we have to bring guns and we kill someone. That we actually intend to take another person’s life. The moment you take a gun or a knife – what have you – your intention is to really hurt. Lee: Unless you’re protecting yourself. Nicole: Unless you’re protecting yourself,” Haygood said.

Maxwell also had this to say to his family.

“Lee: What would you like to tell your family? — I know they are suffering? — Maxwell: They don’t like me anymore — I guess I don’t have a family.

Maxwell said he was remorseful and had these final words.

“I’m sorry. I have to deal with God. And every time I go, I have to deal with my sins every time I get to the Lord,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell is now charged with murder and 3rd domestic violence (harassing communication).
