Man Used Knife and Brass Knuckles in Brutal Beating on Dauphin Island, District Attorney Says | Mobile County Alabama News
DAUPHIN ISLAND, ALA. (WALA) – Police say a man was responsible for a brutal beating on Dauphin Island on August 7.
Four people were seriously injured after investigators said Joey Barrett Jr. attacked them online in a food truck on Lemoyne Rd.
About 15 people were lining up for a barbecue when an ox of another kind ensued, Mobile County Prosecutor Ashley Rich said.
Rich said: “Obviously the victims were running a food truck on their private property that they were allowed to do on Dauphin Island and they were seriously injured.”
Rich said Barrett Jr. attacked four people with a knife and other weapons. He faces several charges, including first degree assault.
FOX10 News encountered one of the victims who did not want to be identified but shared photos with us. He said he was punched in the mouth and must have had over 50 stitches.
Three members of his family were also cut up and beaten, the victim said. One of them has been sewn on the side.
The victims’ lawyer told FOX10 News his clients were caught off guard.
Rich said the mobile was still under investigation, but the crime was senseless
“I mean, there was no reason for that to happen,” Rich said.
Barrett also faces a charge of endangering children. Police said it was because he fled the scene and left his child in the parking lot of the food truck.
FOX10 News has contacted Barrett but has not received a response.
