Obituary of Valerie Thomson (1945 – 2021) – Mobile, AL
April 2, 1945 – December 2, 2021
Valerie “Val” Geiger Thomson, 76, of Mobile Alabama passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Val was born on April 2, 1945, in Cranford New Jersey, to Ernest and Gerda Geiger. She was one of ten children, including Connie, Roberta, Sandy, Johnny, Joanne, Bobby, Lori, EJ and Teresa.
Val is survived by his daughter, Nicole (Philip) Carr, his son, Alec (Tommy) Thomson IV and their father, Alec N. Thomson III. His legacy lives on through three grandsons, Mac, Nate and Lorenzo Carr. Moreover, his memory is present through his siblings, Sandy (Billy) Hamaydi, Johnny (Ruth) Geiger, Joanne (Don) Sweeney, Bobby Geiger, Lori (Michael) Prussack, EJ (Georgia) Geiger and Teresa Geiger, a facilitator of nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Kathy Bush.
Val received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Lynchburg College, Virginia. She has spent her life teaching children to discover the joys of reading. From kindergarten principal at First Presbyterian Church Nursery School in Waynesboro, Va., To children’s librarian service at the Augusta County Library, also in Virginia, then to Ben May Main Library in Mobile Alabama , Val loved to share books with everyone she met. Even after six years in retirement and 16 years after leaving Virginia, we still hear from friends and neighbors sharing their children’s experiences at story time or other library activities. These memories give us great joy.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with family in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to The Friends of the Augusta County Library, 1759 Jefferson Hwy, Fishersville, VA 22939.
We would also like to thank the caring and compassionate team at Mobile Nursing and Rehabilitation and Kindred Hospice for their continued care and support.
