UPDATE JANUARY 16 AT 3:00 PM
One of Ole Miss’ top transfer targets in defense has made a decision.
DJ James, the former Oregon starting cornerback, was at Ole Miss, Miami and Auburn before making a public decision Sunday afternoon. After trips to the Plains and Coral Gables, the former Spanish Fort (Ala.) high school star has gone public with his plans to end his college career in his home state of Auburn.
Ole Miss did not receive a visit when recruiting James, but he met with secondary coach Rebel Terrell Buckley on Saturday before making the final decision. James, who had two interceptions as well as more than 40 tackles in OU, committed to Buckley at Mississippi State in high school.
The Rebels have been busy in the portal and remain on multiple targets, from quarterbacks Caleb Williams and Jaxson Dart to wide receiver Javon Baker and more.

Jaxson Dart and Michael Trigg attended last night’s basketball game between Ole Miss and No. 4 Auburn. The duo were spotted with rebel players Jonathan Hess and Nick Broeker during an Instagram live stream from Trigg’s account.

They succeeded.
Sources say The Grove Report that coveted USC transfer recruits Jaxson Dart and Michael Trigg, each of the elite recruits in the high school’s recruiting class of 2021, are on the Oxford campus for their official visit.
Each saw the action and flashed as freshmen at USC this fall and seem to be navigating the transfer portal process together. The duo spent time in Oklahoma on Friday as the NCAA’s contact period began after the dead period in place from mid-December through New Years. This contact period runs until the end of the month.
For Dart, the quarterback swung into action following Kedon Slovis’ injury, there’s a reported top three from Ole Miss, OU and TCU – plus rumors Horned Frog staff are campaigning for the coveted recruit to replace the trip to Oxford with one to Fort Worth this weekend. The quarterback room under Kiffin needs another arm and no doubt the in-form Dart would bring the daunting task of replacing Matt Corral’s run in town.
Trigg faced injury as a freshman as a knee problem caused him to miss considerable time. A tight end/wide receiver hybrid type who also considered playing college basketball, Trigg finished 2021 with seven catches for 109 yards and a touchdown against Colorado.
The Rebels have a top-25 recruiting class and have attacked the gate hard as a compliment, lately landing several prospects, including TCU running back Zach Evans and Michigan middle linebacker Troy Brown.
