Potentially dangerous intersection of the Spanish fort under repair

SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WKRG) – ALDOT would like to receive feedback on a plan to redo a busy intersection at Spanish Fort. Neighbors say the poorly designed interchange between Highway 31 and the old Highway 31 is due to be changed soon. The problem is, when you try to make a turn, it’s hard to see.

“I’m surprised there weren’t more wrecks than there were, it’s dangerous that you can’t see, so it will be a big improvement,” said the real estate agent Terry Reeves. According to ALDOT’s plan, they will close the intersection of Highway 31 and the old Highway 31. Then, will extend the main road of the Whisper Woods Subdivision, Pinyon Drive, to the 31. This makes an intersection at 90 degrees instead of one with such extreme angles.

“When you turn left or right, you will be able to see where you are going,” Reeves said. Neighbors say it’s a change that couldn’t come soon enough, as it is now, they think it’s pretty dangerous.

“I can’t wait for them to do something about it and the first time I got there when they moved out I said not to go it’s extremely dangerous,” said tenant John Dellavecchia. “It’s the safest thing you can do and for some reason when I moved here I noticed so many 45 degree intersections and the problem is you can’t see. ALDOT asks people to submit their comments online. We have a link to that and project maps here.
