(OBA®) – Baldwin County, AL – Last week, members of Baldwin County voted unanimously to appoint Rep. Matt Simpson, R-Daphne, as the new chairman of the County of Legislative delegation of Baldwin.

Simpson, who is completing his first term as a representative of House District 96, said he was grateful for the support of his colleagues to be the new chair of the delegation.

“I am honored to be invited to do so by my fellow representatives,” said Simpson. “I will continue to work hard for the people of my district and our county, and I hope I can help our team of members continue to do great things for all of Baldwin County.”

Simpson said he particularly appreciated the advice and guidance from Representative Steve McMillan, R-Foley, as the delegation’s outgoing chair and congratulated him on his work. McMillan, who is retiring, has Orange Beach and Gulf Shores in his district.

“Steve McMillan has been a strong chair for our delegation and has guided us all through everything since he became chair in 2018,” said Simpson. “When you have a president who has over 40 years of legislative experience and wisdom, it certainly gives you great insight and knowledge on how to get things done. I appreciate President McMillan’s willingness to let me take the hammer for this final year of this session, and I know I have big shoes to fill after him.

McMillan said he and the other representatives believe Simpson is the right choice for the next president.

“We thought it would be a good time to make a change and give him some experience leading up to next year’s election and the new quadrennium that would follow,” McMillan said. “Matt will do a good job for us, and I look forward to working with him and the whole group this last year of the session, as we have some important issues that we are facing and we are going to be tackling some of the issues. most difficult in history. of State.”

Simpson said he remains ready for whatever challenges may be ahead.

“We were elected to be leaders and make the right decisions for our districts and our state,” said Simpson. “As the new president, I intend to continue to fight to make sure we get everything we need here in Baldwin County and on the Alabama coast to continue to do our region an economic powerhouse and a wonderful place to live. “
