Tennessee woman sees beach for the first time
MONTGOMERY, Alabama (WSFA) – The beach is something many here in Alabama probably take for granted. After all, we’re less than three hours from incredible beaches.
Destin, Panama City Beach, Pensacola Beach, Orange Beach, Gulf Shores to name a few.
It’s not just the beaches, however; vacations in general are things that many people do year after year or even several times a year.
What if I told you that one of the closest beaches to central Alabama had just welcomed a 60-year-old visitor from a small town in Tennessee who had never seen the beach in person?
Vicky Melton has not only spent her entire life not seeing the beach, but she has never taken a vacation!
That’s … until June 2021.
“We begged my mom for years to come with us, and she always said no. And this year, she agreed to go, ”Melton’s daughter Allison Jones told me over the phone.
The above Facebook post is proof for all skeptics. Jones posted the photo of his mother taking in the views in Panama City Beach, and it has since received over 15,000 likes. He also received over 1,300 comments filled with joy, support, happiness, congratulations and positivity.
“I just can’t put words into how you feel when you first see her, you know, just seeing how tall she is, it’s just amazing,” Melton says of the first time he saw the beach in Panama City Beach.
You could hear the pure happiness in Melton’s voice as she asked him about his first vacation and his first visit to the beach.
So will there be more trips in the future? Melton isn’t sure yet, but her daughter tells me she has a lot of hope, saying, “I hope with a little conviction each year she will pack her bags and come with us.
