The Wharf announces the opening of registrations for the Kids Win fishing tournament in August
Fishing begins August 20 with weigh-ins on August 21
ORANGE BEACH, AL (OBA®) – The Orange Beach Wharf today announced the return of the Kids Win Fishing Tournament presented by Rouses Markets on Saturday, August 21 and will benefit Make-A-Wish Alabama. Each child is a winner and will have the chance to collect tons of prizes and trophies.
“We are thrilled to host the Kids Win Fishing Tournament presented by Rouses Markets this year to help encourage kids to go out,” said Sheena Mizell, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at The Wharf.
This event is ideal for young beginners or experienced anglers and costs $ 25 per participant to participate. Registrations are now open and there are only 100 places available. Any species of fish can be caught and weighed, and fishing must take place within three miles of any shore. The Coastal Conservation Association Alabama (CCA) will be on hand to show children how to safely and correctly tag and release fish.
“It is important for us to also help educate children about the meaning of taking care of our environment and our waterways while enjoying the outdoors,” said Blakeley Ellis, Executive Director of CCA. “We hope everyone will make plans to join us for some fishing and family fun.”
Fishing begins Friday August 20 at 5 p.m. CST and ends Saturday August 21 at 10 a.m. Weigh-ins will be held at The Wharf Marina in Marlin Circle on Saturday, August 21 from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
“This is a great family event to attend and Make-A-Wish is a very special organization, which we are always proud to support,” said Donny Rouse, CEO of Rouses Markets. “We are looking forward to a great day. “
Children will be divided into two age categories for the prizes: the Small Fry Division (3-8 years) and the Large Fry Division (9-12 years). Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place in each age category for heaviest fish, Lunker (longest / biggest fish) and a conservation award. A top Pinfish award will also be awarded to both divisions.
“We are thrilled and grateful to be a part of the Kids Win Fishing Tournament,” said Tracy Smith, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish Alabama. “What a great way to encourage kids to get out and enjoy the waterways. By participating in this event, children and their families are also helping Make-A-Wish fulfill life-changing wishes for children with serious illnesses. Thank you for your partnership with us in bringing hope and joy to children who are waiting for a wish. “
