Theodore’s head football coach involved in Bayou brawl put on administrative leave – WKRG News 5
UPDATE 5/19: MCPSS says Eric Collier, head football coach and athletic director of Theodore High, has been put on administrative leave following the Bayou La Batre incident.
BAYOU LA BATRE, Ala. (WKRG) – Theodore High’s head football coach Eric Collier and three members of his family are in conflict with the law after a fight in Bayou La Batre.
Bayou La Batre police called it a “premeditated” attack. Police say it all started on Mother’s Day after an incident on Dauphin Island involving Collier’s son. A threatening message followed and police said Collier and her family went to the Bayou La Batre boat launch awaiting retaliation.
The end of the fight was filmed. Several people were pulled from a boat, beaten and even held underwater. Shannon Mcclure, the mother-in-law of one of the victims. told us how her stepson remembered those moments. “I don’t think I was going to go through this, he says if they had held me back I wouldn’t have come back up because I couldn’t fight anymore. On her head, you couldn’t run your fingers through her hair because of the bumps you can see in the shoe prints all over her head.
These photos show her son-in-law beaten and bruised after the violence. The victims’ injuries range from cuts to broken bones – one person had to get 10 stitches.
“They still have a hard time coping with it. You know your child comes up to you saying he can’t eat, he can’t sleep because every time he closes his eyes he dreams of drowning. It had a mental impact on each of them. Mcclure said.
Theodore’s head coach Eric Collier, his son Eric junior, Shawn Collier and Hayden Collier will all face assault charges. Bayou la Batre PD investigated felony charges, but Mobile DA County considered the felony a misdemeanor.
Mcclure also tells us that his stepson and some of the other victims will also face assault charges, coming from Dauphin Island Police for the initial incident.
The MCPSS issued the following statement regarding the warrant: “Bayou La Batre police announced this evening that they have filed a misdemeanor charge. That’s all we know. We will examine it. “
